Muratec has taken the hottest technology for high-speed graphic computer workstations -- reduced instruction set computer chips -- and used it in Muratec's FaxRISC technology to create digital copiers and fax machines specifically tailored to high-volume business communication. Muratec's FaxRISC technology uses a high-performance 32-bit RISC microprocessor to control operations. RISC chips are typically used in computationally intensive applications like graphic workstations -- but the day-to-day requirements of high-volume copying and faxing can be almost as demanding. Sam Kawasaki, Muratec's vice president for technology and products, said the 32-bit RISC microprocessor used in Muratec FaxRISC products was ideally suited to the graphic manipulation and processing needed for these modern high-speed office products. Kawasaki noted that the RISC chip was matched with a custom operating system -- the internal software controlling operation -- created by Muratec specifically for the most demanding applications.
